Having heard a bit about Chat GPT, I decided to investigate how it might be used for photography.
I know AI bots are all about prompts, so I came up with the following three prompts to test on some of my photos:
1. How can I improve my photo using Adobe Lightroom?
This was the first prompt that came to mind. And then I followed these suggestions on those photos. My conclusion is that this allowed me to make some subtle improvements to those photos I tested.
2. Using Adobe Lightroom, how can I improve this photo with specific adjustments?
To see what level of detail Chat GPT might generate. Same conclusion as above but this approach involved just assigning the generated numbers to the listed sliders... no judgement involved based on the on-screen changes to the photos. Similar to the Auto button in Lightroom.
3. Critique this photo
Just out of curiosity, to see what this might generate. It not only provides a more traditional critique of the photo which would apply to the in-the-field experience but also some editing advice with regards to specific sliders and amounts that can be used during post processing.
My preliminary conclusion on this subject is that the third prompt is a "hybrid" that yields the best mix of results. If more hand holding is required in post processing, then I would recommend the second prompt.
One caveat I discovered: the free version of Chat GPT limits you to only so many uses over some unstated time period. More info
I had a thought while working with this... what if Adobe Lightroom had an "Auto AI" button which would analyze your photo in a similar manner and make all of these slider adjustments automagically? That would be a game changer!
